Stanford Cardinal Strengthens Roster with Top Recruit Soren Carlson
In a significant addition to their team, the Stanford Cardinal has secured a verbal commitment from two-time New Mexico High School State Champion Soren Carlson, set to join the program in the fall of 2027. Carlson, a standout swimmer from Albuquerque, is poised to bring his impressive skills to one of the top collegiate swimming programs in the country.
"I'm excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University!" Carlson exclaimed. "I would like to thank God, my family, and friends for their support throughout this journey." Carlson's achievements in the pool are nothing short of impressive. As a freshman, he earned two top-8 finishes at the New Mexico State Championships, placing 4th in the 50 free (22.22) and 5th in the 100 free (48.71). He went on to sweep his individual events the following year, setting new personal bests in the process.
But here's where it gets interesting - Carlson's success isn't limited to the high school level. He has been making waves in the swimming world, setting new personal bests in the 50, 100, and 200 free events. His current best times include a 20.75 in the 50 free, 44.98 in the 100 free, and 1:38.94 in the 200 free.
A Look at Stanford's Roster
With Carlson's commitment, the Stanford Cardinal is solidifying its position as a top contender in the ACC. The team finished 2nd behind California in their first year in the conference, scoring 1065 points. Carlson will join a talented roster that includes recruits like Luke Vatev, Owen Ekk, Connor Christopherson, and Yi Zheng, all of whom are ranked among the top 20 in SwimSwam's Way too Early Recruit Rankings.
As the team looks to the future, they'll be losing some key swimmers, including Rafael Gu and Jonathan Tan, who will have exhausted their eligibility by the time Carlson arrives. But with Carlson and the other incoming recruits, the Cardinal are poised to make a splash in the upcoming seasons.
